As business owners, we don't report to anyone but ourselves. This can make running a business very hard for some people. The responsibility of your work falls on your supervisor when you are employed by someone else, so it's easier to make sure you get things done. Running a business of your own makes everything fall into your own lap, but it can be hard to stand strong and do what you need to do to get things done.

Sometimes knowing what our distraction are or could be help us get through the day and keep us on track. You need to decide what these are or could be so you can deal with them as they arise or prevent them from happening.

As moms, we may find that our biggest distraction is our children. Now we love our children more than anything, but at times they can cause us problems when it comes to business. There are a number of ways you can deal with this situation.

1. Play time

Play time is very important to children of almost any age. They want to spend time with you since you are home and they may not understand why you can't. Share your business with them. Explain why you do what you do and make sure you tell them that they wouldn't have what they have if you didn't bring the money in.

Tell your children that you have some work to get done and then you can play with them. Make sure you tell them that the more distractions you have will cause you to be behind and it will take you longer to finish up. This can mean less time to play or a longer time before you can play. If they let you focus and get your stuff done, it will take less time.

Make sure when you get your stuff done you get up and do what they want for a certain amount of time. Set the timer so you don't lose track of time. When you stick to your plan, your children will be more than happy to wait for you to get done.

2. Social media sites

I know my biggest problem is Twitter. I love the fact that I can socialize with my friends. As a WAHM, you may find yourself being lonely during the day when you are alone. Sites like Twitter can help you, but they also distract you from your work. Plan your time on these sites and stick to it. Set a timer and spend 15 or 20 minutes on there. This may be hard at first, but it's a necessity because you may find yourself spending more time on there and less time working your business. Before you know it the day will be over and you will be so far behind.

For me my children and social media sites are the two biggest distractions I have. Using these techniques I'm able to deal with them. You may find the phone, radio, TV, or email are your distractions. No matter what they are, find a way to avoid them or work around them. When you do this and stick to your plan you will accomplish more and you will feel better about your day.
