WAHMZONE.COM
Where Business and Motherhood Meet

In the United States, we have a saying: April showers bring May flowers. Now, I don't necessarily care for rain, especially when I have errands to run and going out in it will inevitably cause a very bad hair day. But, obviously, flowers need rain to grow and April rain has a lot to do with the beauty of our gardens and meadows that we are able to enjoy in May.

In the same way, as work-at-home moms, sometimes we need to go through the "rain" in order to enjoy our "flowers" or, the fruit of our hard work. So if you're going through difficult times, or a rainy season, keep plugging away. Your diligence and hard work will pay off.

Be sure to read this month's Featured Article titled, "Business Traits for Women." See what traits are often required for women to be successful in their business.

APRIL FEATURED WAHM

This month, I'd like to introduce you to Nora Holcomb. Nora holds a full-time "day job" while she builds her at-home business in the evenings. Talk about ambitious! But Nora loves helping women feel beautiful by offering gorgeous sterling silver bling. If you'd like more information on this business, or even would like to host a party of your own, contact Nora at the email address/website listed at the end of her profile.

NAME: Nora Holcomb

Company: A top of the line Sterling Silver Jewelry Company

How long have you been with this company? 2 1/2 Years

What does your job consist of? Parties, Parties and more Parties, and making new friends and playing dress up with women. I offer tons of FREE JEWELRY for those who book shows with me and I help the men purchase jewels for their favorite woman. Time is also spent before and after the party with e-mails, phone calls, meetings, party preparations and order entries. My job also consists of advertising. This is a bonus because simply wearing the jewelry is advertising. Fortunately, this company helps me earn FREE JEWELRY that I wear for this purpose! You can't help but love this job!!!

Approximately how many hours do you work every week (on average), including all aspects of the job - home shows, marketing, ordering, packaging, etc.? I currently only sell as a part time job to make extra money, due to my full time employment elsewhere. On average, I have two shows per month which consists of 3 1/2 hours each. An additional two hours are spent before and after each show. To break this down, I work about 11 hours in one month. If I chose to do this full time I would try to do 2 shows a week which would mean about 11 to 12 hours a week. Once my kids are grown, this will surely be an option.

What is your average weekly income? The average show is about $750.00 and I earn 30% of my sales. At two shows a week, this would be $450.00 per week. Doing two shows a month I earn $450.00 extra dollars per month. The beauty of this business is that I can earn whatever I set my mind to. I get out of it what I put into it.

What would you say is the best part of the job? The best part about my job is the new friends I make, from other Representatives, who I call my Sisters, to those friends who have held shows for me and all the women who have attended my shows. Making new friends is always a ton of fun. I love offering women FREE JEWELS and this company has one of the very best hostess programs offered. It's wonderful to see my hostesses sparkle in their FREE Jewelry. I also get to offer women a great opportunity to work for this fabulous company. The jewelry is spectacular and all of it comes with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE. The incentive trips offered are incredible and, of course, I get my jewelry for FREE - or at least 50% off.

In short, I get paid to party and make new friends!!! You can't beat that.

How about the most challenging part of the job? I work full time for another great company, my husband works second shift, and I have two teenage daughters. It is really hard to find time to sit at my desk and make the necessary calls needed. I would love to be able to work this business consistently at 11 to 12 hours a week instead of the 11 to 12 hours a month that I am doing now.

What do you love most about the products? I love the fact that all our jewelry is .925 Sterling Silver. This company backs their product by offering a Lifetime Guarantee. This is not something you will find in a shopping mall. This jewlery is all handcrafted. There are more than 480 pieces of jewelry in our catalog and each piece is tailored to fit the different needs and desires of all woman. This company is in their 11th year of business and keeps growing every year. It's great to work for a stable company.

Why should other moms consider looking into working for this company? It is FUN!!! Wearing this Jewelry will turn those compliments into confidence. Who doesn't feel good when someone compliments you on the way you look? You are guaranteed to get compliments all the time.

I get paid to party and hang out with other women. There's not much packing to do to go to a show. And, if you're an at-home mom, this is a great way to get out of the house and have some girl time with friends.

Such easy money. I can be out of the house for 3 hours a night and get paid an average of $225.00 that night. I don't even have to wait to get paid; I collect it the night of the show. Travel opportunities are also available. I flew to Tennessee and had a $2,000.00 show and made six hundred bucks that night. My trip was paid for and I had extra money to spend.

Anyone who refers a friend to me who might be interested in what I do can earn $100.00 in FREE JEWELRY if that friend signs up and joins my team.

WAHMZONE ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

Women are sometimes expected to "have it all" and "be everything to everyone." No wonder we complain of so much stress! This month's article deals with just what traits women need to thrive in business today. This article is not geared specifically towards work-at-home moms, but it offers excellent advice for succeeding in any business venture you choose.

Business Traits for Women
By: Janice Jenkins

What traits should women develop to excel in business? You need a lot if ever you would want to get into this world mostly dominated by men. It takes a lot of courage and generosity for any woman to compete. And if you are that kind of woman, the following traits can help you stay afloat especially in these trying times.

Perseverance
Perseverance first before anything else, says one woman entrepreneur whose business is into custom printed booklets. In fact, her booklet printing company took 5 years before it was able to get many customers to come regularly to her shop.

It takes many years before one can bear fruit as a business. There is really no instant formula for success. So be sure to be ready for the long haul because in order for you to survive, you need to persevere to see the fruits of your labor later on.

Passion
Women are associated with this particular trait. As passion goes, you need to have excitement and zeal in every business venture you undertake. Nothing can be achieved without passion. You should be excited to wake up every morning because you know you are going to attend to business matters for the rest of the day.

Patience
Results are not made overnight. It takes patience to find out if you are in or out of the competition. Especially for the custom printed booklets entrepreneur, she says that with the advent of digital technology, there are so many booklet printing companies that have surfaced in just a few years. According to her, there are many websites where one can go to have their custom printed booklets reproduced that it is hurting many booklet printing companies' offline. You just need to be patient so people will see the difference in the kind of service you provide.

Again, there is no such thing as instant success. Even Fortune 500 companies that have been in the list for so long have started from scratch at one time or another. It takes a lot of patience and perseverance to continue moving on even when the times are getting harder and harder.

Creative
Do not be afraid to think of new ideas and update your business knowledge. Be more creative when providing solutions to problems. And be sure to look at things in different ways. Profits are made from different angles - be it financial, social or environmental. People in general can make changes even when the times are hard. No matter the climate or how small your business, you have to put on different shades to your business to survive the economic crunch.

Partnership
To be successful, you have to pull in many skilled and knowledgeable people to help you with your business. Do not be afraid to ask for advice from those who already know the ins and outs of the industry. Be sure to get help from those who have the skills and specializations that you do not have. Hence, you should determine your strengths and weaknesses so you can provide balance in your business venture.

Balance
Women in particular are very good at creating balance in their lives. It is especially demonstrated in how they have been able to have both a career and a family life. In fact, women are known to have been successful because of their capacity to balance both their feminine and masculine side. Thus, women have the natural capacity to go deep into relationships with clear thinking and strategy.

These are just some of the traits women entrepreneurs should have in order to excel in business. If you think you have what it takes to be a business owner, then go ahead and show what you can do. Women can succeed, and they do mean business.
