APRIL 2010
WAHMZONE.COM
Where Business and Motherhood Meet
Spring has officially sprung! At least, in America. If you're like me, springtime brings with it an overwhelming urge to clean house. Not that the cleaning itself is enticing, but the end result. Closets… windows…carpets… garage… While clutter and dust are distractions, there's nothing like a clean office to motivate me to work. Can you relate?
What about your website? Does that need cleaning? Be sure to read this month's Featured Article, Spring Cleaning Your Website, for tips on how to freshen up your site to attract new customers!
Speaking of websites, WahmZone.com offers everything you need to build and maintain your online business. Check out the Web Service Zone for a wonderful website builder and great deals on hosting and domain names. Creating a website has never been so easy! http://www.wahmzone.com/web-services.php
FEATURED WAHM OF THE MONTH
This month, Soylicious Representative, Krista Key, took the time to answer a few questions about her business. Perhaps you'll find this company to be just the type of business you're looking for. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Krista through the link provided , below.
WAHMZONE: How long have you been with Soylicious and what made you decide to join?
KRISTA KEY: I have been a distributor for Soylicious since September, 2009, and they just got into direct sales in July, 2009, so I was one of the first to get in on the ground floor!
WZ: Tell us a little about the company and what your job consists of.
KRISTA: The owners of Soylicious have been making and selling candles for over 10 years, but last year decided to introduce their products to direct sales. They have since introduced a variety of candles, wax tarts, electric warmers, plug-in warmers, reed diffusers, soy soaps, and room sprays.
My job with the company includes selling & promoting the products because most people haven't heard of Soylicious. I also am focusing on building and training a team to help the company grow and get word out everywhere! I especially love to do fundraisers. I don't make a whole lot off the initial sales, but they're an easy way to get the products out there for people to try and help out groups and causes that I believe in. I'm actually getting ready to do my own fundraiser in April for the March of Dimes, a cause I whole-heartedly support.
WZ: Very cool, Krista! How many hours do you work per week, on average, including all aspects of the job?
KRISTA: I wish I knew! Sometimes I work my tail off getting things ready for parties, fundraisers, team training, creating new documents, etc., and then there are days when I just don't do anything (I consider those my days off). It has been sporadic, but I love the fact that I can do it all at my own pace and take a couple of days off if I want.
WZ: What is the Company Payment Plan/Incentive Program & your personal average weekly income?
KRISTA: The company offers the distributor a 40% discount on all products purchased, plus we get 40% commission from all online sales. We have a residual income structure layout that is based on commissionable volume (CV) - 5% of 1st level, 2.5% of 2nd thru 4th level, 5% of 5th level, & 2.5% of the 6th level, on down. On top of this, the earnings percentage is doubled for the candle of the month meaning. For example, we get 10% of the $29.95 candle-of-the-month fee paid by each of our first level team. The candle-of-the-month includes a selection of products sent out each month with a retail value of around $45 (there are 3 options to choose from), and includes our website and affiliate software.
As far as what I make weekly, it all depends on how much I work my business. In April, I am proud to say I won't make much of anything on my product sales! But that's because I m donating 30% of all my sales to the March of Dimes, so I m so happy to say that I will be working for free :. I make enough on residual income to pay for my candle-of-the-month and hope to continue to grow my team and train them how to run a successful business, which in turn will help me to one day be a true work-at-home mom.
WZ: What is your favorite part of the job?
KRISTA: I love all of it. I've always loved both sales and candles! And now I realize how fun it is to help other people reach their goals and dreams. So the team-building side has been surprisingly a fun learning experience as well!
WZ: How about the most challenging part of the job?
KRISTA: Just like with anything in life, there are days when you just don't feel motivated to do anything. And sometimes it's hard to get your butt in gear, especially when there are other pressing matters, but in the word of Dory (from Finding Nemo), you just keep swimming, swimming swimming swimming. :)
WZ: Why should other moms consider looking into working for this company?
KRISTA: There are multiple reasons...the earnings plan, the training available, the low distributor costs, the ability to join a company that's still relatively new, where you can create your own waves and introduce something new to others, a family feel between all the distributors, no matter whose team you're on...it really is a great fit for most anyone. We're not a candle company OR a wickless scents company...we're both. And we have owners who are listening and implementing changes from what their distributors are telling them. Not too many direct sales (or jobs) do that these days!
WZ: Is there a link for other Wahms to check out for more information or to contact you?
KRISTA: www.sellcandlesnow.com
WZ: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! Sounds like a great company to work for. Best success to you with Soylicious!
FEATURED ARTICLE OF THE MONTH
We all know how to clean our houses (we should, anyway!), but what about cleaning our websites? Work-at-home mom, Terri Seymour, gives us tips and advice on clearing out the cobwebs and making our websites sparkle.
How to Spring Clean Your Website
By: Terri Seymour
Spring is a wonderful time of year but it might not be so wonderful for our online business. The weather is getting nicer and people are spending more time outside, away from their computers. One way to get more people to come to your website is to do some spring cleaning and I don't mean your house! Our websites can get stale and outdated if we do not clean them up periodically.
There are lots of things you can do to freshen up your site and bring new life and new customers to your online business.
1. Add a new section filled with resources, information and maybe even some special deals for your customers. Use relevant keywords to improve your ranking. For example: if you own a home decor business, offer decorating tips and advice. Show people how to decorate on a budget or how to redecorate with things they already own. By providing information and resources along with your products, you are giving people a reason to keep coming back. This is how you build trust with your visitors and get more sales.
2. Remove all dead links, outdated information and products. Nothing is worse than going to a site and finding links that don't work or information and/or products that are no longer useable or helpful. Go through all the links on your site and freshen up the content to offer up to date information!
3. Give your homepage a facelift by adding new graphics, text, etc. Redo your banner and give it some new life. Take out the old graphics and add some fresh new images. Research your keywords and revamp your text with some effective keywords. Write a new introduction to your site detailing all your new additions.
4. If you haven't yet tried blogging, read up blogging and zap some life into your site. Some free blogging sites are Blogger and WordPress. Blogging is a great way to improve your search engine ranking while expanding your network.
5. Update your product line. Add some fresh new products and offer the old products at clearance prices. Have a Spring Sale and liven up your sales! Keep those customers coming back for more!
6. Add a What's New page so you can let everyone know about all your updates now and in the future. This feature could get more people to return to your site to see What's New?
7. Research the colors used on your site. You may find changing the colors of your site can bring a whole new life to your business.
8. Put a small survey on your site. Ask your visitors what they would like to see and what type of products they are looking for. Getting the information straight from the horse's mouth could do your business a lot of good. Offer your visitors a small gift for answering the questions on the survey.
9. Renew your goals! Make new goals and write out a new business plan. Learn from your experiences, good and bad, and improve your plan for success.
Spring is a time of renewal, revitalization and reenergizing! Our online businesses are no exception!
