WAHMZONE.COM
Where Business and Motherhood Meet

Happy March! I hope today finds you happy and healthy and enjoying your life as a work-at-home mom!
Last month, I told you about a great new site for work-at-home jobs and opportunities. Have you had a chance to visit www.WahCheck.com? This is an excellent resource for anyone searching for that perfect work-at-home job or business opportunity. And not only can you find listings, you'll also be able to see ratings and reviews on each company, and leave your own comments, as well. You can even sign up to be alerted whenever there is a new job listed so you won't miss any! There are also SPAM alerts, exclusive articles on working from home and a wonderful message board community. Hope to see you there!

WAHMZONE FEATURE OF THE MONTH

You've heard of the Emmy Awards, the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards and the Grammys. While taking home one of those awards may be unlikely, there is an award you have a good chance of winning: The WAHMMY AWARD!
WahmZone.com offers The WAHMMY AWARD to websites we feel offer excellent service and resources to work at home moms.
If you have a web site or you know of a site that you feel deserves this award, we'd love to hear about it! If WahmZone.com determines that it is, indeed, a valuable site for wahms and deserves to be recognized, we will present the site owner with the WAHMMY. If your site is granted this award of excellence, you will receive a button to include on your site, which is very cool! But, more than that, your site will earn FREE exposure on WahmZone.com by being featured in our Wahmmy Award Winners section.

Click the link below to submit your website or one you know of to become a possible Wahmmy recipient:

Good luck! And, if you win, don't forget to thank the little people who helped make your website a success!

MARCH FEATURED WAHM

Thank you to this month's Featured Wahm, Debra Miller-Vaughn, who gives us a glimpse into her TriVita business. Perhaps it will be something that appeals to you. If so, feel free to contact Debra via the links at the end of her interview for more information.

NAME: Debra Millar-Vaughn

Company: TriVita, a 10 year old Arizona based, cooperative marketing health company backed by a 37 yr old media company.
How long have you been with the company? 6 months. I was a devoted user of their B12 product 5 years ago and found myself consistently recommending it to people with a particular health condition, as it had helped me significantly, so I joined.

What does your job consists of? Primarily supporting my team and down-line and sharing the customer buying business model with others who hate to recruit as much as I do. TriVita runs TV infomercials to gather customers. We can then purchase the lifetime re-order commission rights. TriVita does all the follow-up with printed Vita Journals and an email health newsletter monthly. Customers re-order by phone to the company or through the website. This makes for a pretty much hands-off income unless you want to grow a business team.

What is the approximate hours worked per week on average, including all aspects of the job - home shows, marketing, ordering, packaging, etc.? Only about 10. No shows, no ordering, no packaging, very little marketing required. I do some social marketing and old-school face to face catalog sharing. As cooperative marketing is an unusual concept, it doesn't have all the regular activities you'll find in other businesses.
Can you share your average weekly income? Unfortunately, per company regulations, I cannot make any income statements, but like anything else, it can be as little or as much as you want it to be. Once you have your customer base built up, the commission from customer re-orders can be a significant income.

What is the best part of the job? Without a doubt, the fact that NO recruiting is required if you don't want to! Also important to me is having faith in the company's longevity, experience and ethics. Like many, I've been burned by unethical companies before.

How about the most challenging part? I'm pretty reclusive naturally, so stepping out and sharing the TriVita system of acquiring real customers to business prospects is the most challenging for me. I've seen a recent increase in professionals seeking a somewhat passive way of building an alternative retirement income due to their lack of confidence in existing plans, so filling a need makes it easier.

What do you love most about the product(s)? Product diversity, their effectiveness, the reasonable pricing.

Why should other moms consider looking into working for this company? I think the system of company acquired customers and follow-up leaves moms with more free time to devote to family. You don't need to be at the computer, on the phone, or at parties so often, selling or recruiting.

WAHMZONE ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

We all know how difficult it can be to balance working from home with caring for a family. Here is an encouraging article on things you can do to remain centered and focused on both without losing your mind.

Work At Home Balance - Yes You Can Do It All (The Important Things At Least)
By Diana Ennen

It's HARD! Most home-based working moms are saying the same thing now, how do I do it all? Run a business and balance a family. The pressure of clients, busy schedules, snow days, etc., can be daunting. I know, I've been working at home since 1985 and although it gets easier, it is still a challenge. Here are some tips for finding balance. They have helped me considerably through the years and I hope you enjoy them as well.

1. Keep in mind that it's a learning process. No one is perfect. One of the greatest gifts I did learn was to no longer beat myself up so much. So what if I didn't do it all today. So what if my house didn't pass a white glove test today (or ever). I really enjoy my business. I really enjoy my family. I feel as long as I set a good example for my kids, and keep my clients happy the best I can, I'm a winner today.

2. To be able to get it all done and enjoy your family, create boundaries, both work-related and personal. You don't want to have to do it all and once you start saying no, you'll be amazed how truly awesome it feels. When you keep in control, things run better. Plus, I believe both your family and clients appreciate knowing what is expected of them.

3. Have a schedule to follow and stick to it as much as possible. Avoid unnecessary interruptions, including constant e-mail checking. Set a timer for checking emails, message boards, routine tasks. Think of time as money. Avoid time robbers such as friends that IM all day just to chat. This isn't to say you can't have fun and friends, you want that, just keep control and don't let it interrupt your day.

4. Get out of the office and do your work whenever possible. I do a lot of writing and proofing as a publicist and virtual assistant. Instead of sitting in the office, I take it the local coffee shop, bookstore, library, outside patio, beach, etc. It feels great to have a change of pace. A good cup of java and I'm good to go. Plus, find out if you can take your kids places and work. I will often be able to take my kids to the beach where they can play and I can catch up on some edits.

5. Multitask whenever possible. When I prepare dinner, I will often do a crock-pot meal with the meat designated and also prepare a meal in the oven as well so I'll get two meals out of it. You feel like you have a day off on Day 2. Also, I'll prepare my kid's lunches and my own lunch while I prepare dinner. That way I can prepare a healthy lunch and snack the night before for both of us. When I'm not in a rush in the morning, I have more time to devote to putting healthy things together. You'd be amazed how good it feels to stop and eat a pre-made salad or sandwich while working instead of grabbing for something else.

6. Take small vacations to get away. Plan a Friday, Saturday, Sunday vacation. This really helps because we don't feel like we are always working. Also, when you're busy, don't let exercise and going to the gym be the things you give up. You need those for energy.

7. Take weekends and evenings off. It's so easy to get caught up working 24/7. But when you take this time off, you feel so much more energized. And you get to connect more with your children.

Working at home can be a challenge, but it can also be the most rewarding journey ever. I believe that not only I benefit from the experience, but my children as well. They get to see a confident positive mom who loves going to work every day. And that's priceless.
